Full Moon Celebrations for Middle School Girls (6th – 8th graders) with Ashley & Rebecca

Family means something different to everyone, but for Ashley and me the word conjures up warm, cinnamon-scented afternoons in the kitchen with our grandmothers, baking cookies and cakes and pies. We didn’t know it at the time, but along with learning recipes, we were learning from these wise old souls how to grow up, and we were given the tools to become the women we are today.

Many of us today are far from our extended family, and even those close by struggle to find the time to connect. There are so many demands on young girls today, so much pressure to study, and do and achieve. We want to bring back pockets of time where girls can just let their hair down and gather as young women. We feel that carving out space to honor the divine feminine within and without in nature holds great importance for young women today. We also intend to allow the girls to experience the power of support within a circle of women and to remember the inner strength and resourcefulness within themselves. Ashley’s husband, Phuc, will offer guest appearances when we teach the girls life skills like using power tools and changing a car’s oil.

Ashley is a stay-at-home mom and yoga teacher. She loves to travel, read and take long walks (followed by long naps) with her dog. She has recently started learning about energy medicine and is excited about weaving energy work into her yoga practice and teaching. And she is grateful to her preteen daughter for supporting her efforts to spread confidence, community and joy to today’s young women.

Rebecca has loved working with teens for fifteen-years as a high school teacher. She has also led many groups of teens in her work as a mental health counselor and dance therapist. She takes great joy in fostering supportive communities and incorporates, yoga, mind-body exercises and shamanic traditions into her circles.
